According to the New York Post, large-scale riots have erupted across France, leaving streets filled with smoke and flames as police struggle to contain violent clashes and looting. Amidst the chaos, some truly bizarre scenes have emerged: a man and a woman were captured sitting nonchalantly at an outdoor café, drinking and smoking, with a raging fire burning just a short distance away. In another video, a woman is seen jogging through thick smoke and rioting crowds as if it were a perfectly normal day. Both clips have gone viral online, drawing widespread attention.
One video shows a man and a woman sitting at a table at an outdoor café in Paris, chatting and smoking with an air of complete relaxation. Just a few feet away—near the iconic Arc de Triomphe—a large fire was blazing. Despite the intense flames nearby, the pair appeared entirely unbothered, continuing to enjoy their drinks and their leisure time.
Another video, also filmed in Paris, is equally baffling. A young woman, dressed in a sports bra and running shorts, was seen jogging through the scene of the riots on Saturday. Even as the streets were blanketed in thick smoke, with burning electric bicycles piled into a bonfire and protesters gathering all around, she wove her way through the flames and the crowds, looking completely composed—as if the surrounding chaos had nothing to do with her.
Violent clashes and looting broke out across France over the weekend, leading to approximately 2,500 arrests, including 855 in Paris alone. Violent groups clashed with police, and some luxury stores were looted amidst the disorder.
The wave of unrest has raised concerns regarding public safety in France and the government’s response. In a national address on Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the violence, pointing the finger at radical leftist groups and criminal gangs.
Nevertheless, the 48-year-old president—who is set to leave office next year—departed for the Middle East on Monday for a three-day visit. This move drew criticism, with some accusing him of being out of touch with the public and displaying an arrogant attitude, arguing that the government should prioritize addressing the unrest given the volatile domestic situation.
